My family went camping for the first time in around 7 years. Proper tent and sleeping bag camping. There's never been a reason for us to go. The beach is a day trip away, and in the mountains we have a little condo we stay at.
It was only one day and two nights. Nothing serious, but we still grossly overpacked food. No biggie, all that means is leftovers for home.
The weather was more than beautiful. 70-75 in the day, with night dipping into low 50s. The "highlight" was spending the day hanging out at a nearby lake, Scott's Flat Reservoir. It was a little chilly with the breeze, but the water was great. A handful of the boys ended up trying to walk around the lake because we thought there was a path to a rope swing a couple of the kayakers spotted.
There was no such path, and we ended up wading through marsh and thick brush for an hour in swim trunks and flip flops. It was worth it for the experience.
Overall? Great time with friends, more comfortable sleeping than expected, and a lot of mosquitoes. I do need to get a bigger sleeping bag...
