the 4WD in our 2000 Silverado hasn't been working for who knows how long. The problem could be anything from the transfer case to the wiring. Considering most people with broken 4WD still have the control button dash lights working, I guessed it might be something as simple as the wiring behind the dash, or a blown fuse.

I needed to get at the wires behind the 4WD panel to the left of the wheel. That's where the struggles began.

Everything was fine on the outside end, and it was getting very warm. (The car was in the sun. Having the doors open only goes so far.) I wanted to pull the entire left control block out so I could see the wires behind it.

This was the hardest part. I had to pull the top dash panel as well. That means a dozen or so fasteners, the side panels, grab bar, and all the plastic clips that hold it all in place.
Being the truck is 26 years old, all the plastic is extremely brittle. This is extremely unfortunate, as there are a bunch of plastic fasteners that need a lot of pulling to remove.

Upon the deeper inspection into the wiring, everything looked good. The fuses were good too, but the plugs looked dirty so I changed them for good measure.
End result? Nothing. At least it was a little fun, and I got to scrape some dust out from under the panels.
